Where did the time go? I remember like yesterday driving home from North Carolina with her. And potty training in the ice storm (good times). Her chewing the window sills. Puppy kindergarten classes with a mean, man-hating woman who criticized only the men in the class. Or the time we left the gingerbread house on the kitchen table, only to find the cardboard base on the floor a few hours later. (Ditto for a giant birthday cookie we made for Clay’s birthday.)
I think we created the Energizer dog taking her on such long walks as a puppy-she could endlessly fetch a football or tennis ball. One time we were at the river that runs behind our subdivision, and she was swimming for a ball. We suddenly noticed this “stick” that started to move not far from her. (Yep, snake!) We retrieved our retriever real fast!
The most amazing things about Cali are her gentle disposition and sweet spirit. They both were tested with two babies who she let crawl all over her without complaint. Although she is in her “golden” years and her ball-chasing days are over, she can still be spunky and perky. I am so thankful to have her as our “fur child” and part of our family.
