I completed my first 5K this weekend-the Back to School 5K at the Middle Tyger YMCA. I had my own cheering squad out there, and it must have helped because I ran it in under 30 minutes! Plus, I was first in my age group (ha-all the other 40somethings must have slept in). I am extremely excited and thankful for all the encouragement I have received. I have never thought of myself as a “runner” but I know that the bigger battle is just pushing myself beyond what I think is possible.
“The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.”-John Bingham
This is not a return to running for me after a hiatus-I never ran before, always shuddering at the thought. I started in May I don’t say that to be all showoffy but to say, “If I can do it, then anybody can do it.” I just got tired of making excuses for why I wasn’t physically fit and needed a kick in the seat of my pants. Nothing like starting running during the summer in the South Carolina humidity! The heat has made me become more of a morning person-that’s about the only thing motivating me to get my rear end up early. That is, until school starts next week!
Next step: getting in more mileage in preparation for the runDisney Tower of Terror 10miler September 29–only 6 weeks away!!!!
