When asked about holiday events, one of the first to come to mind is the Roper Mountain Holiday Lights. When the lights turn on, it truly is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The Winter Wonderland includes lighted walking trails, Santa Claus, a balloon artist, concessions, and giant holiday greeting cards created by local area students.
After you have visited WinterWonderland, continue on to the 1.5 mile drive through the large displays including Candy Cane Lane, Santa’s Sleigh, the Caterpillar, and many other family favorites. Roper Mountain Holiday Lights is the only not-for-profit holiday lights event in the Upstate with all of the profits helping education and local non-profits.

This classic ballet tale rolls into town twice. Both Nutcrackers are at the Peace Center: the first by International Ballet and the second Carolina Ballet. This was our holiday staple when I had a little ballerina, and it still makes me get in the Christmas spirit.

Peace Center is host to many holiday events this season, and nothing is more exciting than a NEW offering. Enter Santa Claus: A New Musical. Here’s how they describe it: “After a thousand year run, Santa is ready to retire. Who will take his place? Is anyone fit to run the North Pole? Find out in this hilarious, fast-paced NEW musical guaranteed to get everyone in the family into the spirit of the season.” Psst: expect a post-performance visit with Santa and his elves.

In its platinum anniversary year, TSO is bringing back its treasured tale, “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve” to Greenville for two performances on December 9, 4pm and 8pm at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Expect loud music, bold visuals, and a jamming great time! I was most impressed with the violinist from last year as he sawed on the fiddle on a giant boom that went out over the audience!
December 15-17, 2017
As an former orchestra girl, I love these kind of concerts. Especially when filled with holiday music! The Greenville Pops are back in action to get toes tapping and smiles popping. Yes, count on return performances by the International Ballet and Santa Claus, as well as the ever-popular audience sing-a-long. Fa-la-la indeed!
